Over the summer, videos of actor Tom Hardy appeared on TikTok competing in a martial arts competition, apparently doing so well, and ending up winning the REORG Open Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Wolverhampton. This week, Hardy won his matches in another tournament.
Hardy, a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu who trains at schools affiliated with Roger Gracie, participated in the 2022 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Open. This tournament is part of the Ultimate Martial Arts Championships at Oakgrove School in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, England.
The star of The Warrior and Mad Max: Fury Road, dressed in blue, fought many opponents and eventually won all of his matches. Hardy’s Certificate of Achievement was awarded under Edward Hardy, and his first name as an actor goes by his middle name professionally.
Talking to WatchmanA tournament spokesperson described Hardy as a really nice guy and it was really a pleasure to host him at their tournament this year.
“Everyone recognized him but he was very humble and was happy to take the time for people to take pictures with him,” the spokesman said. “It was really a pleasure to compete in our event.”
Preparing for the movie Warrior Back in 2011Hardy broke down his training schedule and how he prepared his body for the role. He would maintain his massive 2012 physique in The Dark Knight Rises by playing the role of Bat-nemesis, Bane.
“I do two hours of boxing a day, two hours of Muay Thai, two hours of jiu-jitsu, followed by two hours of choreography, and two hours of weightlifting seven days a week for three months,” Hardy said. “You have to really do it, so it was a challenge.”
